Conohana, A Native American dish
by Nedra

This side dish recipe is quick and easy to make. As most of you know, corn was a staple in the American Indian diet. Here is an old family recipe of mine that has corn, as its main ingredient.

Conohana

1 pint English walnuts
1 short quart cooked corn
3 pints cooked hominy
Black Pepper and salt to taste

Bring the Walnuts, a little water and hominy juice to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer. Cook until they are soft. Add the cooked corn, hominy, and a piece of butter the size of a walnut. Add Black Pepper and Salt to taste. Simmer and stir for 3 minutes, then pour in a pan and bake brown.
Serve with Fry Bread, Venison Steak and Sassafras tea.
